Music Ministry

Music plays a vital role in our worship services. Our approach is always to strive for excellence in order to reflect the majesty and glory of God, which we believe is primarily, though not exclusively, expressed through traditional hymnody, such as found in the Trinity Hymnal.

Martin Luther has been quoted as stating, “Let God speak directly to His people through the Scriptures, and let His people respond with grateful songs of praise.” Similarly, we believe that singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs are critical in the worship of our Triune God, yet only in so much as it supports the Word and preaching.

Ways to get Involved

Sanctuary Choir

This is the most visible musical ensemble of Westminster. We sing a broad mix of classical, contemporary, and hymn arrangements. It is open to adults and teenagers, once their voices have stabilized. Rehearsals are held in the Sanctuary on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm. The Sanctuary choir typically sings every Sunday in the worship service with the exception of the summer.

Children’s Choir

This is open to all children in K4 through grade 5. The Children’s choir exists to capture the child’s raw sense of joy and celebration, to expand it with the fundamentals of music and following a conductor. The choir will sing typically twice a year, and from time-to-time for special worship services with the Sanctuary Choir. They rehearse in the lobby of the school building between Morning Worship and Sunday School from 11:00 to 11:30.

Orchestra

This ensemble helps lead the congregational singing in addition to occasionally providing special music. The good news about this group is that, for the most part, there are no rehearsals. Accordingly, those that participate in the Orchestra must be able to read music and self-tune. The only rehearsal requirement is to join the choir at 9:00 Sunday mornings to read through the worship service hymns for the day.

Instrumental Soloist or Ensemble

Anyone with a gift for playing an instrument is invited to contact Tom Adams about using their gift to serve the Lord. If you are interested in getting involved or have any questions, please contact Tom below!
