In 1973, the Presbyterian Church in America was formed when 260 congregations across the country left the denomination of the Presbyterian Church in the United States because of its tendencies to espouse a more liberal, less than orthodox theology.
The PCA was founded on five fundamental principles: 1) It believes in a triune God as revealed in the Bible, the only rule of faith and life. 2) It’s confessional; that is, its beliefs are reflected in the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. 3) It’s connectional, in that each local church is affiliated with other PCA churches. 4) It’s governed by a board of elected elders from each local church who rule over that local church. 5) Its commitment to Christ’s Great Commission is taken very seriously.
Today, the PCA is one of the faster growing denominations in the United States, with over 380,000 members, making up over 1500 congregations.
Headquartered in the Atlanta, GA area, our denomination features two institutions of higher learning, Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, GA and Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis. Through the PCA’s evangelistic arm, Mission to the World, over 600 foreign missionaries are working in 60 nations.
